What is a good brand of dog food that won't break the bank?

Diamond Naturals is found nearly everywhere, and it's pretty low priced. It's not the best food available, but it is much better, in my opinion, than Purina. Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul is also made by Diamond, and is a LITTLE more money, but a good food. Canidae is a moderately priced food that is very good. What brands does your feed store carry? If they have Purina MILLS products (owned by Land O' Lakes, not Nestle-who makes Purina Dog Chow), you could try PMI Exclusive Lamb & Rice (this is the only one I would recommend-not the Chicken, and none of the other PMI foods).
