Why do atheists dismiss the paranormal and supernatural instead of dwelling into it to unravel its mysteries?

Few things are more "paranormal" than the existence of alternate dimensions, the possibility that we could exist in more than one "reality" - but scientists are beginning to appreciate that the Cosmos is much more "supernatural" than science has realized. Give them a few more centuries and much of what we think of as paranormal today will be in scientific textbooks.
